Cape Town City frustrated Mamelodi Sundowns in last Sunday’s Premier Soccer League encounter in the Mother City.
The match started energetically, with both teams seeking an early goal, though clear-cut chances were scarce in the initial 20 minutes.
As the first half advanced, Sundowns gained more control, yet they were unable to capitalise on City's uncertain back-passes, resulting in a goalless scoreline at halftime.
During the second half, both teams persisted in their efforts to break through each other's defences.
Nevertheless, the match concluded without any goals, allowing the Citizens to move up to the third position on the Premier Soccer League standings and Sundowns’ winning streak coming to an end.
Keanu Cupido was solid for City in defence, breaking down Sundowns’ attacks, which was vital for them to keep a point at home. The defender earned a 72.6 rating in the Top Players & Ratings section.
Terrence Mashego posed challenges for his former team by not only contributing defensively but also generating opportunities in the attacking phase.
The host team couldn't capitalise on their numerous opportunities in front of the goal and could have had Sundowns playing catch-up from the first half.
The Citizens will now redirect their attention to the iKapa Derby against the bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs on Sunday, December 31.
Meanwhile, Masandawana have two matches to get ready for, facing Moroka Swallows on December 27 and Polokwane City on December 30.
