The South Africa U20 team have walked away with a lucrative prize of $200,000 (approximately R3.6 million) after winning the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Amajita have beaten Morocco 1-0 in the AFCON U20 final which meant that for the first time in their history, South Africa have won the tournament with their previous best finish being a runners-up position 28-years ago.

Midfielder Gomolemo Kekana fired home the winning goal in the 70th minute.

It was revenge for South Africa who were in the repeat of the 1997 Afcon final, where Morocco defeated Amajita 1-0 in the final.

The South African youngsters have also qualified for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup, set to take place later this year in Chile, as one of the four U20 AFCON semi-finalists representing the continent at the global event.

According to CAFOnline, the winner of the tournament is guaranteed prize money of $200,000 (approximately R3.6 million).

Morocco who were in the final will still take home a still respectable $150,000 (approximately R2.7 million).
